Day 11 - Fri, 23 Aug 2013: Left for Savannakhet

We are staying at a guest house in Savannakhet for the night then heading for Pakse tomorrow. It is nice to see so much of Laos on this trip. In the past, we stayed only in Vientaine and traveled to places that were close to the city.

Vientiane to Savannakhet
6 hours 4 minutes
486 kilometers / 302 miles

The roads on the way to Savannakhet are much better than the roads that we traveled on the way to Luang Prabang. The land is much flatter so the roads are straight and there are not problems with erosion that we saw in northern Laos.

Before we left Vientiane, we stopped at a Wat to drop off some medicine that Molly wanted to give to a lady she met on her previous trip. We were unable to locate her but we found some folks who knew her and promised to get the medicine to her.

On the way to Savannakhet, we stopped and purchased some cooked corn-on-the-cob from a roadside stand. It was a yummy snack for our trip.

When we arrived at Savannakhet, we stopped at Ing Hang Stupa.

After checking into the guest house, we went to Xerndonemueng Resturant for dinner.

While we were at the restaurant, mom called on Skype. We had a good connection so we were able to video chat.

After dinner, we went to a nearby casino to take some pictures and have a look around.
